Made by people who race
Atkinson RC Sailing is a small New Zealand operation specialising in IOM rigs for Vickers sails and practical racing accessories.
Our approach is simple: we build for other sailors what we build for ourselves. Every rig is put together with the same attention to detail, using components and set-ups that we know and trust through our own racing.
Whether you’re looking for a single rig, a full set or something tailored to your particular requirements, get in touch. We’re always happy to talk sailing.

The Vickers Connection
We’re proud to collaborate with Vickers RC Sailing and Wings and Waves to help continue the legacy of the late Ian Vickers.
We’ve long admired Ian’s IOM designs and want to play our part in seeing his boats — and the thinking and craftsmanship behind them — continue to be enjoyed and raced well into the future.
In memory of Ian Vickers — a true gentleman and friend.
The Atkinson Brothers
Dean Atkinson
Co-FounderDean first raced IOM yachts in Auckland in the 1990s, returning to the sport in 2025 after discovering a thriving club in his hometown of Nelson.
He quickly found his racing form again. Within his first 12 months back in the sport, Dean competed in six regattas, achieved five podium finishes and climbed to number two in the New Zealand IOM rankings.
Kelvin Atkinson
Co-FounderKelvin is an award-winning cabinetmaker and owner of Atkinsons Innovative Interiors, with a workshop at Port Nelson. Earlier in Kelvin’s career, he worked for Alloy Yachts in Auckland, working on cabinetry for high-end custom sailing and motor yachts.
A lifelong sailor, Kelvin has recently returned to IOM racing. His background in craftsmanship and boatbuilding, combined with his eye for detail and practical approach, is a natural fit for building and developing IOM racing equipment.
